GY-9960-3.3 APDS-9960 Gesture & Proximity Sensor

The GY-9960-3.3 is a breakout module based on the APDS-9960 integrated optical sensor. It combines gesture recognition, proximity detection, ambient-light sensing and RGB colour sensing in a single compact device, making it useful for a wide range of interactive electronics applications.

Its integrated infrared LED and photodiode system can detect reflected infrared light and recognize hand movements without physical contact. Common gesture functions include detecting left, right, up and down movements, while proximity sensing can be used to detect when an object or hand approaches the sensor.

The APDS-9960 also provides ambient-light and RGB colour measurements, allowing the same module to be used for automatic lighting, colour detection and other optical sensing applications. Communication is handled through an I2C interface for straightforward integration with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi and similar platforms.

This 3.3V module is particularly suitable for low-voltage microcontroller systems, wearable interfaces, touchless controls, interactive displays, robotics and automation projects.
